The Greek watchdog asked for comments from the operators regarding the new broadband marketing campaign of OTE. The incumbent came forward last week with an upgrade plan to reduce prices on the high-end of its fixed broadband portfolio. More specifically OTE plans the following:
Upgrade 2Mbps/256k to 2Mbps/512k at no additional cost

OTE’s CEO Panagis Vourloumis announced this Friday (10/7/2009) that the organization decided to set in motion its VDSL roll-out plans “as soon as possible”. Another valued reader made a good remark on an article in Kathimerini I mentioned few posts back. OTE publishes data for its unbundled loops with no indication on what these loops are used for. In short, OTE overestimates broadband connections stats by assuming that all unbundled local loops are used for ADSL services.

According to OTE’s data for the third quarter of 2008 published on Friday, the sum of active ADSL connections reached 1.415M. 890K of these are bitstream connections and 525K are unbundled local loops.
