After a relaxing summer break of close to 3 weeks I am back online. To get myself started, I’ll post a few links that caught my eye and attention while I was cleaning up my posts and emails backlog:
- Stehen posted an interesting article on PtP fiber access networks scalability issues when compared to PON networks.
- OTE shutdown 85% of all communication circuits provided to Altec Telecoms, one of his competitors. OTE claims that Altec’s debt to the organization is more than 19M Euros and is only protecting his shareholders interests. Altec insists that its debt is no more than 12M and debt payments were in the process when OTE ordered service shutdown. Obviously, the case is forwarded to EETT. [An interesting fact is that one of OTE’s top management executive has recently moved to Altec to reinforce the company’s sales team]
- The Promise of Municipal Broadband is a lengthy article that brings in some optimism to municipal officials following the recent unfortunate outcomes of many municipal broadband initiatives in US.
- In France, FttH law adopted and new ARCEP decisions, new access obligations. Read more here. Benoit has also commented on this development there.
- Siemens sold the majority of its telecommunications business. Read more in Telecommunications Magazine and at TelecomTV.
- An ambitious project that aims to reduce deployment costs by allowing customers to own the fiber last mile has started in a residential area of 400 homes in Ottawa. Read more here and there.
